At Mass every weekend - 100 years old
I wonder how many parishes in the diocese, or indeed in the country, have a parishioner of a hundred years old who is at Mass every weekend. Our Lady of Lourdes does: Pat McDonald is with us every Saturday evening, making the journey from his home on his trusty scooter. Father Colin presented him with a Papal Blessing at the first Mass of Laetare Sunday to mark Pat's one hundredth birthday. God bless you for your faithfulness to him and to his Church, Pat.
Ad multos annos!

Real Easter Eggs
I guess many people will be buying chocolate Easter Eggs to give to children - or to eat themselves!
Instead of getting something with secular symbols of Easter bunnies etc, why not try a Real Easter Egg the first and only Fairtrade chocolate Easter egg to explain the Christian understanding of Easter.
You can order them via the link above or our neighbour, Mandy McIntosh at fair2all has some in stock.

I rarely do 'commercials' - but I thought I would make an exception in this case!
Anything which can present the real meaning of Easter is worth supporting.

Lenten Station Mass
It was good to welcome people from across the Deanery on Thursday evening. There was a lovely prayerful atmosphere during Adoration, and it was wonderful to see how many people came early for this. A special thanks to our visiting priests who were available to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and to those who provided refreshments so that we could meet each other informally after Mass.
Many people have told me that a special highlight of the evening for them was Deacon Andrew's homily at Mass. You can read it here.

Every priest dreads hearing the words: "Father, I never knew about that." Usually it involves something that has been advertised in the newsletter for many weeks, often months!
Our Lent Reflections
We have already had two good sessions after the Wednesday morning Mass. Although they follow a pattern, it is perfectly OK to come to some if you can't make them all.
Some weeks we are using material from Proclaim '15 a significant evangelisation initiative called to support, inspire and encourage new expressions of parish evangelisation. A project of the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, it is designed to affirm the good work that is already being done by the Catholic community, and to provide resources and events to profile and develop new expressions of Catholic joy and missionary outreach.
Other weeks we are looking at ways of praying. This week we looked at praying with scripture using material from Pray as you go and Sacred Space.
Do join us next Wednesday.

Parishioner in London Marathon seeks sponsorship
This time I, Edward Quinn, am running the London Marathon for Coping with Cancer in Leicestershire and Rutland. I have had a little practice running over the last 5 years. Now after 21 Half Marathons and the at age of 67, I thought I should step up to the Marathon, the real challenge of running, endurance and willpower. The training alone is daunting, but you have to go through the "pain" to stand any chance of achieving the goal. BUT, it is worth it to help raise awareness of Coping with Cancer and raise funds that help those affected by cancer. As some of you may know I finished my first marathon, but just a little worse for wear.
